Personalized Learning Environments

Abstract

In recent years E-Learning has experienced a rapid change. Sometimes you even can find in this context the term “learning revolution”. While initial approaches were mostly designed solely for the transmission of knowledge, there is an increasing demand for user-centered learning environments, which promote an active participation in learning. Instruction gives way to autonomous learning and the learner is from now on in the focus of attention.

The aim of this research project is the conception of a personal learning environment, supporting various types of learners optimally by reasonable employment of learning-tools. For this purpose the individual learning-behavior of users and the resulting impact on the learning-success will be analyzed. Based on the findings different user groups can be generated and discerned measures of learning-behaviour as well as specific recommendations for the design of a personal learning environment can be derived.
